Kawazu Sakura is a cherry tree that blooms early in late January to early March (while other sakura species bloom around mid-March to early April), discovered by people in Kawazu town, Izu peninsula in 1.

Kawazu cherry blossoms are larger than other cherry blossoms, their petals are clearly spread out and have a deep pink color. Coming to Kawazu, you can also see the “Kawazu Sakura Tree” - known as the first Kawazu cherry tree discovered and then crossbred to create 8000 Kawazu Sakura trees across Japan.

The festival is held throughout the towns of Kawazu up to Mine Hot Springs, with the Kawazu River as the focal point. Food and drink stalls line the streets along the river, and you can also buy local handicrafts and souvenirs. Address: Sasahara, Kawazu-cho, Kamo-gun, Shizuoka-ken
